A New Chapter for Calypso Ballistics.

Open, faster, and ready to lead. We're launching a full new generation of ballistics gear and for the first time, we're introducing an open protocol, available to every optics maker, calculator provider, and app developer who wants in.

We don't put out press releases very often. When we do, it's because something big is happening. This is one of those times and honestly, it might be the biggest one yet.

Eleven years engineering the smallest ultrasonic wind meters on the market precision, scientific instruments.

First, a thank-you

Before we talk about what's next, we want to acknowledge the road we've traveled with Applied Ballistics. Developing the Mini AB together was a genuine pleasure, and that partnership helped us grow and gain recognition in the ballistics space. Beyond the business itself, our relationship with the people at AB has always been warm and genuinely enriching, and we remain in regular, ongoing contact with them. We're proud of what we built together, and we're grateful for it.

The current Mini AB remains available while supplies last, and it will continue to work with the AB ecosystem for the life of the product. That doesn't change.

Big news: new generation, built on an open protocol

Here's the headline: we're launching a completely new ballistics line, and thanks to new hardware and firmware, we can now offer an access token (partner key) to any optics manufacturer, calculator provider, or app developer who wants native compatibility with Calypso. No exceptions, no gatekeeping. If you build in this space and you want in, we want to talk to you.

Open protocol. Open doors. Let's build.

And here's the real payoff for everyone already integrated with the Mini Black or the Mini AB: with a lightweight software update and the new partner key, your platform doesn't just stay compatible. It unlocks native support across the entire new range: the revamped LoRa network, WeatherDot, the Mini All-in-One, and the upcoming Calypso Handheld Ballistics.

One partner key. The whole new generation.
Every optics maker. Every calculator. Every app. Build with us.

Introducing Gunship Grey  New Line

Our products are getting a new look to match the new era: Calypso ballistics gear is moving from green to Gunship Grey, the color that will carry our entire ballistics lineup forward. And this isn't a single product refresh, it's a full generation. These products will roll out progressively between now and the end of the year.

Not just a new color.

Every device in the new Gunship Grey line brings real upgrades under the hood:

Open protocol built in — very device speaks the same protocol, natively compatible with every solver that joins the ecosystem. This is the single biggest shift in this release: the ecosystem is open, and it grows with every partner who signs on.

Tall-format tripod — the same specialized calibration that, until now, only the Mini AB had. Built for the range where accuracy is hardest to hold and matters most for wind calls.

New microcontroller — extends BLE range well beyond the previous generation.

New battery — roughly a third more capacity, built to hold up in extreme temperatures.

We arrived in ballistics from other worlds. Now we're planting a flag, a full range, built for every use case in the field.

New Mini & WeatherDot

The direct successor to the Mini Black and Mini AB, built on everything we've learned, alongside a refreshed WeatherDot. Same size, same reliability, but now with enhanced compatibility: both devices can talk to every partner in the ballistics ecosystem, not just the ones we could support before, today's partners and every one still to come.

Calypso Mini Ballistics

Calypso Weatherdot Ballistics

Mini All-in-One

A brand-new device that combines the Mini and the WeatherDot into a single unit, single form factor. One device, full environmentals, done.

Calypso Mini All-in-One Ballistics

Charging Case

A sleek, purpose-built case with an internal battery and induction coil, compatible with both the Mini and the Mini All-in-One, one case, either device, always topped up on the go. USB rechargeable, LED charge indicator. It protects your gear, simplifies transport, and drops the device into an ultra-deep sleep mode that drastically extends battery life.

LoRa, fully revamped

A single receiver now supports dozens of connected LoRa units, up from 3. Built for shooting ranges and large-scale deployments, now with wired output to an external monitor or display.

Calypso Long Range Ballistics meters

Calypso Handheld Ballistics

The one to watch. Traditional handheld wind meters have always relied on a mechanical turbine to give you speed, and nothing else.

We took the technology behind the Calypso Portable Mini and built the first handheld device that delivers wind speed and wind direction, alongside full environmentals:  temperature, humidity, and pressure. Color display, physical keypad, AA battery power with a USB port for continuous use, and BLE connectivity for compatibility with any interested partner. There's simply nothing else like it on the market.

Calypso Handheld Ballistics

"Wind isn't just a number, it's a direction too. We're the only handheld that knows that."
We didn't improve the mechanical ballistics handheld wind meter. We made it obsolete.

Also arriving by year-end

50cm tripod for the Mini, built for shooters in firing position

Tall-format tripod (~2m / 6ft) for the ULP LoRa unit

Ruggedized tablet, built for the field

Also available now: wired integration

Not every use case needs a portable device. If you're building a measuring station, an optic, or any other hardware that needs wind data built in, the door's open today: our Mini and our ULP Wired sensors are available right now for integration into your product. These aren't concepts or upcoming launches. They're proven units, already shipping, and now open to any ballistics company that wants to build them in. Standard integration is via UART or I2C, with Modbus available for larger setups. They'll come in black, since that's simply the color they're already made in. Your Mini Black and Mini AB

Both the Mini Black and the Mini AB remain in our catalog while supplies last, and both devices will keep getting full support for the life of the product. If you already own one, your investment is completely secure.

The Mini Black is being retired to make room for the new Mini, a natural handoff, and nothing about it is lost. Once current stock runs out, the new Mini simply picks up where it left off.

The Mini AB is a different story. It's the only Calypso device built for native compatibility with the Applied Ballistics ecosystem, and that won't carry forward into anything we make going forward. Once current stock is gone, that compatibility goes with it, for good. If AB compatibility matters to your setup, this is the moment.

One App, per vertical

Anemotracker has served golf, sailing, meteo, and ballistics under one roof for years. That's changing too: we're splitting into a family of vertical-specific apps, built to go deeper for each community we serve. CalypsoBallistics, our dedicated app for the ballistics market, launches on the app stores after summer.

New team, sharper online presence

Our team keeps growing, and we're investing specifically in online business, bringing in people with real industry experience to run it, so we can be closer to our customers than ever. Over the coming months you'll see it show up everywhere: a complete rebuild of our ballistics website, a reworked e-commerce, and social channels that look nothing like they do today. This is just the beginning of what you'll be hearing from us.

We didn't slow down to build this. We sped up.

Wherever you are, there's a real person at Calypso ready to help, with pre-orders, partnerships, or anything else.

About Calypso

Calypso Instruments was founded in 2014 in Spain, by two engineers who set out to build something the wind sensing market didn't have: ultrasonic measurement that was small, low-power, and actually affordable. Our first ultrasonic anemometer launched in 2017 to a DAME Award nomination at METSTRADE; two years later, the Ultrasonic Mini earned a DAME Special Mention, runner-up only to Garmin.

From there, our platform found its way into sailing, agriculture, drones, smart grids, and meteorology. Ballistics came later, but it's become one of the chapters we're proudest of, and today, one where we're just getting started.

This chapter just started. We're here to stay.
MISSION

Calypso Instruments designs, manufactures and markets portable and stationary ultrasonic wind meters and environmental sensors for OEMs and final customers, with an edge on low power, small size, and affordability.

VISSION

To enable individuals and organizations to improve their performance and safety by providing disruptive weather instruments and data, unlocking new applications and use cases through innovation.

Calypso now operates across Europe, the US, and Asia, and our mission hasn't changed since day one.

This is the biggest year in Calypso's history; and it's only July.

We're grateful to the partners and customers who got us this far, and we can't wait to show you what's next.

Stay tuned.

The Calypso Team.
